A peak at Against Winds And Tides, Bodh’aktan’s charges into the English world

Originating from the Magdalen Islands, Havre-Saint-Pierre, Saguenay, Quebec and England, these musicians come from diverse musical backgrounds that collectively produce a unique and explosive sound.

Having already toured throughout Europe (Germany, Belgium and France) in addition to performing extensively in Québec – their biggest fan base – Bodh’aktan draws in both young and old listeners using their festive and energetic performance style. Alan Doyle, of the band Great Big Sea, has been a great fan and supporter of the band. He’s even gone so far as co-writing and singing as a feature guest on two of their songs, “Dansez! Dance Hey!” and “The Three Captains.”

The band’s debut English album, Against Winds And Tides, was co-produced by Juno nominee Fred St-Gelais (Marie-Mai, Marc Dupré, David Usher).

Against Winds And Tides will be available on iTunes October 8th.

Matt Good talks Arrows Of Desire, Substance and disrobes OZ at Studio Q

Matthew Good stopped by Q studios last week to have a chat with host Jian Ghomeshi during his cross country press junket to discuss the recent release of Arrows Of Desire, Good’s 13th studio album and sixth solo venture.

He speaks about his return to straight-ahead rock ‘n’ roll from songs that defined his youth, coming out of the more indulgent sounds of Lights Of Endangered Species, a state of the music address and the success of Joy Division’s Substance album resonating in today’s music aether, and his take on the overall non-reaction by the public to the NSA findings; similarities to unclassified CIA programs like Project MKUltra, Paperclip and Bluebird.

Nothing out of the ordinary for Matthew Good.

Matthew returns home to the top of the charts with Arrows Of Desire

Today marks the release date of the much anticipated and brilliantly written new album by Matthew Good: Arrows Of Desire, available in stores and on iTunes. Ramping up to this event, Good has been on a press and publicity bull run from coast to coast, with no suprise about the favourable reviews Arrows Of Desire‘s been receiving.

“Are you ready to rock?…a short sharp set of potent Can-rock crunch inspired by the heroes of his youth.  Bullseye.” – Darryl Sterdan/The Sun Newspapers

“On his new album…the multi-Juno-award-winner keeps up the good fight…this is a back-to-basics affair that seems sure to appeal…drum-on-your-desk guitar rock with brains…” – Marsha Lederman/The Globe And Mail

“…a recognition of rock music itself…refined…” – Tom Harrison/Vancouver Province

“…a more innocent, back-to-basics and decidedly unpolitical turn…Good is embracing the music that made him want to be a musician in the first place…” – Francois Marchand/Vancouver Sun

“…a guitar-heavy ode to 80s four-on–the-floor bands…evolved and mature…” – Adrian Lee/The Canadian Press

“This record has a classic sound…the return to the basics of rock.” – Zach Fulkerson/Lithium Magazine

Breed 77 bring Fear to the stage in latest video

Written by Cathy N

Breed 77, known for their distinct rhythmic sound and classic metal riffs, have released a new video for the song “Fear” off the band’s fifth studio album, Evil Inside, released through Frostbyte Media.

The video, compiled of footage of their March 2013 UK tour, highlights the band’s consistent high-energy performances along with a sneak peek of their life on the road. Whether a large or intimate setting, the video shows packed venues of devoted metal- loving fans who are clearly engaged by the band’s incredible live performances.

Band members Paul Isola, Danny Felice, Pedros Caparros, Stuart Cavilla and Andre Joyzi are dedicated to their highly stylized and unique sound. With rythmic influences of flamenco from their Spanish/Moorish roots Breed 77’s sound is impressive to both critics and fans alike.

This month the band continues on their summer tour through the UK and Portugal. For more details about tour dates, visit their website at

Rebirth is produced by Seven Witches founder/lead guitarist/mainstay Jack Frost and features a gritty, hook-laden sound and is a return to basics for the band highlighting Jack Frost’s signature ax work.  In addition to Frost this time around, Seven Witches is rounded out by Ronnie Parkes (Farcry) on bass, Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Danzig) on drums, and brand new frontman Anthony Cross.  The band will tour in support of Rebirth later this year in North America; please see below for confirmed tour dates.

Melissa Bel Headlining Rock Festival Evening

Photograph by Darko Dan

IlluminAqua is excited to announce Melissa Bel will be headlining Friday evening, August 2nd at the Rock Festival at the Merritt Park Amphitheatre.

The artist will be replacing Delta Rae as the headliners had to cancel approximately 17 shows this summer-including IlluminAqua’s Rock Festival due to members of Delta Rae tending to medical issues.

“We really love our Canadian fans and are so sorry to have to cancel our shows there this August, we’ve been on the road so much that we’ve delayed some necessary medical care that can’t be delayed anymore,” Brittany Holljes comments. “We would never cancel if it weren’t absolutely necessary, and we hope our fans will understand. We promise to make it up to everyone as soon as we can!”

The concert will proceed according to schedule and IlluminAqua is excited to announce Melissa Bel as headlining that Rock Festival evening. Melissa Bel is stepping up from her role as the opening act after a great response to her recently released album.

Toronto’s Melissa Bel has toured and performed in Germany, Barbados and New York City and has shared the stage with Serena Ryder, Colin James, Sloan and Ron Sexsmith. In April and May she opened for Canadian rock icon Mathew Good in London, England and New York City. Her latest album, Don’t Forget to Breathe, was released June 4th by record label FrostByte Media and Canadian distribution partner Universal Music.

Bel will also be the musical guest on CHCH TV’s Morning Live Show August 1st, giving us a glimpse of what to expect the following day.

“The Illuminaqua stage is the perfect place to play on a summer night. Really looking forward to the show and I’m very excited to introduce the crowd to the songs from Don’t Forget to Breathe!” said Bel.

Individuals who have purchased tickets to Delta Rae, the Rock Festival package, and Season Pass holders have already been contacted and have expressed excitement about the lineup. The ticket price for the concert has been changed to $ 17.50 for the August 2nd concert.  If you wish to purchase your tickets today for the Rock Festival, visit or the customer service desk at the Seaway Mall.

The Last Vegas with “She’s My Confusion” video…US and Euro Tour with Buckcherry and Hardcore Superstar…new album in the works!

Chicago rockers The Last Vegas are back with another eye-catching music video for the song“She’s My Confusion” off the band’s fourth full-length album, Bad Decisions, released last fall through FrostByte Media. The video is produced and directed by the Chicago-based video production company Motion Source Video Solutions, the same team responsible for the “Evil Eyes” music video.

The video is based on a well-known Chicago area ghost story named Resurrection Mary that’s been around since the ‘30s. The young woman, Mary, had spent the evening dancing at the Oh Henry Ballroom (now the Willowbrook) with a boyfriend. Following an argument that evening Mary stormed out into the cold winter’s night, leaving the ballroom behind and walked along Archer Avenue. Not long after, she was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver who fled the scene leaving her to die. The story survives through the many men who claim picking up a young female hitchhiker along Archer Avenue between the Willowbrook Ballroom (which is the locale for the video) and Resurrection Cemetery. When reaching the cemetery, the young woman is let out only to disappear into the cemetery.

“The Willowbrook Ballroom is a Chicago musical institution; one bad-ass, old-school place which drips of mystery, intrigue and aura. What better place to film an unconventional rock video for ‘She’s My Confusion?’  We stepped back in time and addressed whether those noises we hear in the night are real, or just a dream?” – Adam Arling

TLV are a straight-up rock n’ roll meets garage/punk rock band that turn any event into a raucous. Hailing from Chicago and formed in 2005, TLV burst onto the national scene in 2009 when Motley’s Crue’s Nikki Sixx saw them play live in Los Angeles and subsequently co-produced their third album, Whatever Gets You Off.  More touring followed, including a stint opening Motley Crue’s “Saints Of Los Angeles” tour.  The Onion referred to their sound as “Swaggering, stomping, balls-out guitar rock”, while The Chicago Sun-Times declared them to be “Red hot garage-rockers.” The Last Vegas is: Chad Cherry (vocals), Adam Arling (guitars), Danny Smash (bass), Nate Arling (drums) and Johnny Wator (guitars).

TLV are in studio this month laying down tracks for their fifth full-length album, title yet to be determined, working with the great Roy Z (Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson, Sepultura) and immediately following up with a North American tour and then a European tour supporting Buckcherry and Hardcore Superstar, but they’re not doing any of that alone. Partnering with fans through PledgeMusic, TLV are offering up a variety of great exclusive opportunities like a studio hang, an acoustic performance/backyard BBQ and more!
